Walk of Witness
on Good Friday, 22 April 2011
Good Friday is a very special day in the Christian Calendar.
We commemorate the amazing act of God taking for us all the punishment for our wrong doings.
It is a solemn day, when we remember His suffering; but it is also a wonderful day. On the first Good Friday the course of human life was changed for good for ever.
Christians from many local churches walk in remembrance.
We
start from East-the-Water School at 9.15 a.m.,
walking via Sentry Corner, Clifton Street, Torrington Lane, Bideford Long
Bridge, The Quay, High Street, Honestone Street Car Park, Pitt Lane, North Road,
Bridgeland Street, Mill Street, Cooper Street, Jubilee Square, The Quay, High
Street, Allhalland Street.
Finishing at St. Mary’s Parish Church with a short service.
As the procession passes through the town, we stop at Bethel Free Church, Methodist Church (High Street, 10.00 a.m.), Quakers, Catholic Church, Lavington Church, Baptist Church, and Jubilee Square for a reading, prayer and hymn.
